3 Easy Herbs to Grow in Your Home

Keeping fresh herbs in your home is a great way to brighten up the space, as well as add flavour to your food.

These three herbs are easy to keep in pots on your kitchen windowsill or anywhere that gets enough sunlight:

Bountiful Basil

Basil is easy to grow and thrives in the summer. The leafy herb is usually associated with Italian or Thai cooking, and will generally make a great addition to just about any pasta dish.

This sweet herb loves sunlight and warmth and keeps producing for months if you look after it right.

Tip: Basil is a great companion plant for tomatoes – both in the ground and in the frying pan!

Pretty Parsley

Parsley is a lovely, tasty addition to many meals, either fresh or cooked. Whether in salads, soups, sauces or even a simple sprinkling on top of your meal, this simple herb can elevate your food.

This leafy plant does well indoors with plenty of water, especially in soil that drains easily.

Tip: Parsley doesn’t like to be transplanted too many times, so take care if you ever do need to repot it.

Radiant Rosemary

This evergreen shrub carries pretty blue flowers when it gets big but will still be a great addition to your kitchen while it’s small. Originally from the Mediterranean, rosemary is incredibly versatile and can be used for potatoes, roasts and stews.

Once again, the sun is your friend with this sturdy plant. It also prefers well-drained soil – less is more with this hardy herb.

Tip: Take full advantage of this plant by placing a sprig of rosemary beneath your ironing board cover so that it releases its memorable scent as the heat of the iron passes over it.
