4 Simple Activities that Help Relieve Stress
Stress forms part of our everyday lives. Often, it can be a good motivator to get tasks done – think completing your project deadlines or studying for a test.
Other times, however, stress can be incredibly taxing on your mind and body. If built up over time, it can have a seriously negative effect on your overall health.
To help put yourself at ease, we’ve found four stress relieving activities that you can try in the comfort of your home, in the great outdoors and even at work:
Take a Walk
According to research, taking a 10-minute walk around the block or at the park can boost your endorphins, which in turn can reduce stress hormones and alleviate mild depression. Plus, walking through green spaces triggers the brain to go into a calming meditative state.
Eat Dark Chocolate
Good news, chocolate lovers – dark chocolate has been found to lower the stress-related hormone known as glucocorticoid. So, if you’re feeling a little anxious while working on an assignment, nibble on some chocolate and feel the stress melt away.
Meditate for 10 Minutes
Find a quiet space in your home, office or garden. Then, for 10 minutes, close your eyes and allow yourself to focus on your breathing. With every inhale and exhale you take, think deeply about the wondrous action of filling and emptying your lungs with air.
After you have finished, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find out how relaxed you’ve become.
Listen to Music
Listening to soothing, slow-paced instrumental music helps lower your blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormones. The sounds of nature – from the wind rustling the leaves in a tree to a bird’s chirp – are also known to have a calming effect.
