Even though summer is just around the corner, there is still enough time to work towards achieving a healthy body (and mindset).

Just follow these simple, unconventional tips and you’ll be well on your way.

1. Listen To Your Body
You will know if you are hungry or not – there is no need to walk around with a little piece of paper counting calories every day.

If you need help learning to listen to what your body actually needs, visit a (non-diet) dietitian who specialises in intuitive eating.

2. Move in a Way That Feels Good
Exercise should make you feel good, not tortured. There is an extreme fitness culture that loves to sell the idea that you aren’t working hard enough if you can still walk after a workout.

The truth is that sustainability is key. Not everyone enjoys running or swimming; perhaps you find more joy out of a pilates, yoga or dance class. If you do an exercise that you enjoy, you are more likely to continue doing it. So, choose an exercise routine that you can stick with.

3. Buy and Wear Clothes That Fit Your Body Now
Don’t buy and wear clothes for the body you had last summer when you exercised religiously. Don’t try to squeeze into shorts that are a size too small.

Exercising in comfortable clothes is far more enjoyable. But keep your old training clothes as motivation to work on getting back to your fitter, healthier self.

4. Free Your Mind
Don’t waste your life obsessing over each gram that you gain or lose, or over how much you eat or exercise (or how much you don’t). Rather fill your mind with positive thoughts and intentions and try your best to realise these intentions.
