8 Dead in NY Truck Attack

November 01, 2017

Eight people were killed and 11 more – including two children – were injured in a terrorist attack in Manhattan, New York City yesterday.

In the worst terror attack in New York since September 11, 2001, Sayfullo Saipov intentionally drove a truck onto a popular bicycle path.

After mowing down cyclists and pedestrians for approximately 14 blocks, the 29-year-old immigrant from Uzbekistan reached a road and ploughed into a school bus.

Saipov was shot by police after emerging from the truck with what appeared to be two guns. It was later revealed that the guns were fake.

Bystanders reported that Saipov was shouting, “Allahu Akbar”, which is Arabic for, “God is great”.
Saipov has undergone surgery for the gunshot wound to his abdomen, and is expected to survive.

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, said that this appears to be a “lone wolf” attack, and that there is no evidence to suggest it is part of a wider plot.

Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, slammed the incident as a “cowardly act of terror”.

According to the United States media, Saipov left a note in the rented truck claiming that he committed the attack on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS).

ISIS has recently been encouraging its followers to use vehicles to commit acts of terror.

England, France and Germany have all seen deadly vehicle attacks in the past year.
