Florence Pugh Sorry over Past Cultural Appropriation

June 29, 2020

Actress Florence Pugh has issued an apology to fans for appropriating different cultures in the past.

For the past few months, the 24-year-old “Little Woman” star has been called out for her past behaviour: this includes braiding her hair into African-style cornrows, and wearing henna and Indian bindis on her body.

Another example of Pugh’s appropriation is when – at the age of 17 – she braided her hair in a Rastafarian style, and wore a beanie that was painted with the Jamaican flag colours.

In a lengthy statement posted to her Instagram account last Friday, 26 June, Pugh took ownership of her “uneducated” actions.

She wrote: “I cannot dismiss the actions I bought into years ago, but I believe that we who were blind to such things must acknowledge them and recognize [sic] them as our faults, our ignorance and our white privilege, and I apologize [sic] profusely that it took this long.”
