Portuguese Club Keen on Hiring Jose Mourinho

January 09, 2019

The president of a top flight Portuguese soccer club has admitted that he would like to bring onboard former Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was sacked by the Red Devils in December last year in the wake of the club’s poor performances, as well as his seemingly tense relationship with midfielder Paul Pogba.

Nevertheless, Luis Filipe Vieira, the president of Benfica, said that he is considering bringing in the 55-year-old Portuguese – who previously managed the club for nine league games back in 2000 – following the axing of head coach Rui Vitoria last week.

Vieira explained to a sports outlet: “I am [Mourinho’s] friend. Who would not like to have Mourinho? [But] I have not talked to him. If he says yes tomorrow, he’ll be here at the drop of a hat. Money is no issue for Benfica.”

Benfica are currently third in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, seven points adrift of leaders – and rivals – Porto after 16 rounds.
