Royal Baby’s Private Baptism Leaves Fans Peeved
The newest addition to the British royal family, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was recently christened on Saturday, 6 July, but as far as traditional royal events go, it had a rare trait: it was completely private.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two-month-old son – who is seventh in line to the British throne – was baptised with water from the River Jordan at Windsor Castle’s private chapel. The ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the decision to not allow the media coverage of the event, which left many royal fans deflated.
One fan commented: “[Archie] is Princess Diana’s grandson. We should be able to see the christening.”
The couple’s decision also picked up criticism in part due to the recent news that their newly-renovated Frogmore Cottage home had a hefty price-tag of £2.4 million, which was footed by the taxpayer.
