Snapchat will receive a major design overhaul, focus on simplification
Snap Inc CEO Evan Spiegel has announced that Snapchat will benefit from a major redesign in the future to simplify the service.
Perhaps one of the most controversial aspects of the esoteric app that is Snapchat is its confounding design, which has frustrated seasoned users and newbies alike – and now, in a recent announcement, Snap Inc CEO Evan Spiegel has announced that the service will see a major redesign.
In his address, Spiegel admitted that Snapchat is difficult to understand, and that Snap Inc plans to simplify the service. However, the CEO warned that Snap Inc cannot fully estimate the reaction of its community.
“There is a strong likelihood the redesign of our application will be disruptive to our business in the short term… We also don’t yet know how the behaviour of our community will change when they begin to use our updated application”, Spiegel said.
In terms of Snapchat’s future, Spiegel further clarified that the service presently relies on high-speed connectivity to function optimally, and that affordable wireless connectivity is essential for consumers to access the service – quipping that the company is “taking action both internally and externally to improve connectivity for our community”.
Spiegel further hinted at unique partnerships in the future, citing that “we are exploring partnerships with select wireless carriers who can help us to provide our service at a lower cost to our community.”
Snap Inc will further endeavour to improve its product through new offerings, such as a new streaming architecture for Story playback.
