Tau & Billiat Fire Downs Past Chippa United
Mamelodi Sundowns maintained top spot in the Absa Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Chippa United on Wednesday night.
The Brazilians enjoyed a promising start to the encounter, although they struggled to carve out clear-cut openings in the first 15 minutes.
Sundowns shot-stopper Denis Onyango was called upon on 20 minutes as he produced a superb save in a one-on-one situation to keep the scores level.
Three minutes later, Sundowns carved out their first opening as but Anele Ngcongca’s effort was blocked by Thabo Rakhale.
Chippa’s resolve was eventually broken in the 37th minute as Percy Tau slotted home from close range after Chippa failed to clear their lines.
Sundowns continued to dominate upon resumption in the second half, with Tau causing a number problems in the final third.
Billiat nearly doubled Sundowns’ lead in the 68th minute but Chippa shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi pulled off a wonderful save to keep out the Zimbabwean’s free-kick.
With 10 minutes remaining, Sundowns secured the second goal as Billiat managed to break free before slotting past Akpeyi with a neat finish.
That proved to be the final piece of action in the half as Sundowns ran out 2-0 winners to maintain top spot.
