Tim Sukazi caused a stir online when he revealed a WhatsApp message containing three question marks from Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung, following provocative social media banter ahead of their Carling Knockout Cup clash.
Now, it’s become a recent thing that the TS Galaxy Twitter/X account has been posting provocative tweets aimed at South Africa’s major football clubs. Such was the case when Galaxy took on the Buccaneers on Tuesday, 13 October.
The week before, it was game on.
Not even a major loss stopped them. Talk about taking it on the chin.
And fans got in on the sportsmanship humour.
The roasting continued with the next major team fixture as the Rockets face Chiefs; the social media team knew how to poke fun at Amakhosi’s perceived self-importance.
And, once again, the fans got in on the action.
The 54-year-old TS Galaxy chairman defended the posts as harmless football banter during a recent interview on Metro FM’s “Sports Night Amplified”, saying that while it may create tension, it was not personal nor meant to be offensive.
“Maybe we have made an enemy leading up to the cup match but also it’s banter and it is just within the boundaries,” Sukazi said.
Chief’s marketing director, Jessica Motaung, didn’t take the poking lightly as she sent a late-night message to Sukazi that apparenty contained three question marks referencing the online barbs.
While Sukazi acknowledged that the club’s social media strategy can be prickly, he defended the creative freedom of his team while maintaining oversight. The online back-and-forth has added further intrigue off the pitch as TS Galaxy continues to build rivalries with South Africa’s traditional football powerhouses ahead of their cup encounter.
Despite the pot stirring, the media team still had time to be thoughtful and share a good-natured post, wishing learners luck for their upcoming exams.
