Como Bosses Give Up Euro Debut Tickets for Older Fans

Como 1907 president Mirwan Suwarso and several board members have surrendered their executive seats for the club’s maiden UEFA Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig on Thursday, 10 September, allocating them to long-standing elderly supporters.

Following a fourth-placed Serie A finish under manager Cesc Fabregas, the Lariani qualified for Europe’s premier competition for the first time in their 119-year history. However, ticket availability at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia was severely constrained.

Summer renovations upgraded the venue, but strict UEFA safety rules regarding tubular structures in the “Distinti” section reduced matchday capacity from 12 000 to 11,000.

To assist loyal local followers who missed out, executives gave up their places for supporters born in 1950 or earlier. This gesture honors fans who remained dedicated throughout two bankruptcies and lower-tier struggles before the club’s rapid revival under the Djarum Group.

Addressing the gesture, Mirwan Suwarso wrote: “With the reduced capacity and the limited number of tickets available, unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone who would have liked to be there. However, some club executives and I have decided to give up our seats for this match.

He added: “We want those seats to be allocated to supporters who have waited the longest – fans born in 1950 or earlier, who have followed Como through every division and every era. We will be honoured to give up our seats for them.”
