Wayne Rooney Lambasts Former Team-mate

Wayne Rooney has branded former strike partner Carlos Tevez an “absolute disgrace” during daily training sessions at Carrington.

Speaking to fellow footballing icon Dimitar Berbatov during a recent recording of the Stick to United podcast, the 39-year-old Manchester United legend reflected on the formidable attacking unit that won two English Premier League (EPL) titles and the 2008 Champions League under Sir Alex Ferguson. Despite their on-pitch success, Rooney pulled no punches regarding the Argentine forward’s work ethic behind the scenes.

“If you looked at Tevez in training, he was an absolute disgrace. He was the worst trainer I’d ever seen in my life!” Rooney admitted. “But then as a teammate or the manager, we would accept it because he would go on the pitch and put all his energy on the pitch, which was great.”

Rooney also touched on squad building, comparing Ferguson’s era to Arsenal’s recent squad additions following their EPL title win, noting that constant recruitment drives elite standards.

Despite Tevez’s controversial 2009 move to Manchester City, Rooney previously named him as his favourite strike partner, proving that matchday output ultimately outweighed his training-ground antics.
