2023 SAMA Nominees Unveiled
Mzansi music fans have plenty to look forward to as the nominations for the upcoming 29th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) have officially been announced.
The nominees were revealed last night, Tuesday 3 October, in an exclusive event at the Jabulani Theatre in Soweto, Gauteng.
Late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes is leading the list of musicians being recognised with his final album, “Mass Country”, having been selected for six categories. The LP has been nominated for Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Best Collaboration (twice for the hit singles “Company” and “Lemons”) as well as Best Produced Music Video.
Other well-known local celebrities are also being recognised for their talent, with singer Kelly Khumalo receiving a nomination for Best Female Artist of the Year, and amapiano producer Kabza De Small is currently being considered for Best Male Artist of the Year.
The official awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at its new venue, the International Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu Natal on the weekend of 17 November.
Organisers are already facing pressure from fans and musicians to improve upon last year’s event, which took place at Sun City, North West and received dismal reviews from attendees.
