A$AP Rocky Charged with Assault
A$AP Rocky has been charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office in California on Monday, 15 August.
The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, has been accused of pointing a gun and firing at his former A$AP Mob member, A$AP Relli, in Hollywood, California on 6 November 2021.
The charges come after the 33-year-old was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport four months ago after he landed there with his girlfriend, Rihanna. Rocky was later released on $550 000 bail, just in time for the birth of the couple’s child in May.
George Gascón, the District Attorney for Los Angeles County, spoke with the media as he announced the charges, saying: “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offence that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.
“My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted,” Gascón added.
Rocky’s arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 17 August, at the Foltz Criminal Justice Centre in Los Angeles.
