AC Milan Revive Title Hopes With Narrow Derby Victory
AC Milan have reignited their Scudetto ambitions by securing a pivotal 1-0 victory over rivals Inter Milan on Sunday, 8 March at San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.
The result, which marks the Rossoneri’s first league double in the Derby della Madonnina since the 2010/11 campaign, cuts the gap at the summit of Serie A to seven points with ten fixtures remaining.
The decisive moment arrived ten minutes before the interval. Following a slick team move, Youssouf Fofana delivered a precise through ball to Pervis Estupinan, who lashed a powerful strike into the roof of the net. It was the Ecuadorian’s first goal for the club since his mid-year arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Inter, missing key forwards Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, struggled for clinical finishing. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Federico Dimarco both squandered golden opportunities to level the scoring. Despite late pressure from Cristian Chivu’s side, Massimiliano Allegri’s men held firm to end Inter’s eight-match winning streak.
While Inter remain favourites to reclaim the title from Napoli, this defeat – their first in the league since November – leaves the race wide open. Elsewhere in the division, Como moved into the final Champions League berth after Roma suffered a 2-1 loss at Genoa.
