Amakhosi Suffer Another Loss
Alarm bells are ringing at Naturena as Kaizer Chiefs’ season continued its downward spiral with a 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay at uMhlathuze Stadium last night, Tuesday, 3 March.
The defeat marks a fourth consecutive loss in all competitions for the Soweto giants, following their bruising 3-0 Soweto Derby defeat just days prior.
The decisive moment arrived in the 69th minute when Thulani Gumede capitalized on a swift counter-attack, clinically firing past Bruce Bvuma after being set up by Sanele Barns.
Despite dominating possession with 58%, Amakhosi failed to register a single shot on target throughout the ninety minutes, a statistic that underlines their offensive shortcomings.
Reflecting on the toothless performance, co-head coach Cedric Kaze offered a blunt assessment: “Of course, it’s true that we had possession in the first half, but I would say it was a sterile possession without breaking lines. Without threatening the opponent’s box.”
The defeat leaves Chiefs in fifth place, their hopes of CAF competition qualification fading as they sit eleven points adrift of the league leaders.
For the “Natal Rich Boyz,” the victory was their first of 2026, providing a vital cushion in their battle for mid-table security.
