Ancelotti: Tchouameni Not Ruled Out of UCL Final
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says that defensive midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni, still has a chance to compete in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final against Borussia Dortmund.
Last Wednesday, 8 May, Los Blancos beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in their UCL semi-final second-leg tie. However, during the course of the match, Tchouameni picked up a stress fracture to his left foot.
Despite reports that the 24-year-old Frenchman is sure to miss the final, Ancelotti believes that there is still a chance, albeit very slim, for him to participate in the match.
“[Tchouameni] doesn’t have much chance, but he’s not ruled out for the final,” the 64-year-old Italian manager told a news conference on Monday, 13 May.
“Now he has an important week, his foot does not hurt a lot; I think it’s different from the last problem he had in the foot,” Ancelotti continued, referring to a similar injury that Tchouameni sustained last October, which led him to being sidelined for two months.
The UCL final against Borussia Dortmund takes place at Wembley Stadium in London, England on 1 June – only time will tell if Tchouameni will recover enough within 18 days in order to partake in the game.
