Angela Sithole Talks About “Empini” Role
Angela Sithole’s star is rising higher than ever before after landing a major role in Showmax’s latest drama series, “Empini”.
Set in the world of private security, the show features Nambitha Ben-Mazwi as Ndoni Themba, a determined bodyguard seeking justice for her father’s murder. Siyabonga Thwala plays Khaya Bhodoza, a wealthy businessman who is Ndoni’s employer.
Sithole, known for her roles in “The Queen”, “Lingashoni” and “Savage Beauty”, will take on the role of Winnie Bhodoza, the wife of Khaya and daughter of the deputy president of South Africa.
“[Winnie] is a mother of two. She runs her household and makes sure everything is intact,” Sithole told a local media outlet in a recent interview. “She makes sure the name remains clean in the public eye. A charming, strong woman with a lot of fight is how I would describe Winnie.”
Upon receiving the character brief, Sithole felt a mix of excitement and nervousness about portraying someone older than herself.
“I could not wait to start shooting, and at the same time I was so nervous because I didn’t know how the viewers were going to take it. Even at the beginning, it was a bit of a struggle because of my age, but I guess with God and my talent, we came through.”
