Arsenal, Chelsea Reach Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals
Arsenal and Chelsea have both progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup following their respective wins over Southampton and Leeds United on Tuesday, 26 October.
Playing with a home-field advantage at Emirates Stadium, the Gunners opened the scoreboard with a header from Calum Chambers in the 55th minute. Fourteen minutes later, team-mate Eddie Nketiah mis-hit a shot from a tight corner into the net.
The 2-0 win means that Arsenal has now won six of its last eight games in all competitions.
Over at Stamford Bridge, hometown heroes Chelsea were in the lead 1-0 after Kai Havertz delivered a header in the 44th minute. But Leeds evened the score three minutes into the second half, thanks to a tap-in shot by Che Adams.
The game went into penalties – ultimately, the Blues sealed themselves a victory after a 4-3 win on spot kicks.
More Carabao Cup action will take place today when Manchester City takes on West Ham, Burnley hosts Tottenham, Leicester plays Brighton, Liverpool combats Preston, and Brentford visits Stoke.
