Arsenal Suffer Embarrassing Home Defeat
Liverpool fiercely defended their spot at the top of the English Premier League (EPL) table with a last-minute 2-0 victory over Arsenal last night, Sunday 7 January.
The Gunners hosted their guests for the third round of the FA Cup at Emirates Stadium in London, England. Despite a strong attack from the Reds, the hosts were able to defend their territory for most of the match.
However, an embarrassing mistake by Gunners defender Jakub Kiwior in the 80th minute turned the mood somewhat sour, as the 23-year-old Polish player scored a home goal.
The final goal came five minutes into stoppage time, as Liverpool striker Luis Diaz sealed the win for his side with help from his teammate, Diogo Jota.
Arsenal – who are currently sitting in fourth place on the EPL table – are frustrated with the outcome of the match, as it is their third loss in a row.
“Well, the performance was there and the amount of chances too. We just have to win the game, but we lost it and we are not capitalising. To win games we need to capitalise,” Gunners manager Mikel Arteta said during the post-match press conference.
