“Barbenheimer” Dominates Golden Globe Award Nominations
The Golden Globe Awards announced their official nominees on Monday, 11 December, and to no one’s surprise, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” are leading the pack.
“Barbie” – which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling – is the biggest box office hit of 2023. The neon-pink, feminist satire film has received nine nominations, including Best Motion Picture Director and Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture amongst a variety of other mentions.
In contrast, the more serious biographical “Oppenheimer” claimed eight nominations for its depiction of the creation of the atomic bomb. The motion picture is directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt amongst others.
Actress Meryl Streep earned an astonishing 33 nods for her role in the “Only Murders In The Building” series, breaking her own record for all-time Golden Globe nominations.
Winners of the prestigious awards will be revealed on 7 January, with organisers attempting to focus on diversifying the event after criticism about the lack of inclusion over recent years.
According to reports, event organisers are still trying to find someone who will agree to host the glitzy proceedings, with Chris Rock, Ali Wong and three other iconic comedy actors allegedly turning down offers.
