Bayern Blast Manchester United Out of Champions League
A solitary goal from Bayern Munich’s winger, Kingsley Coman, late into the second half was enough to decide Manchester United’s fate in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), leaving the English side to bow out last night, Tuesday 12 December.
The Old Trafford crowd in Manchester, England hoped against hope that the home team would pull off a win to up their odds in the UCL Group A standings, but the German visitors left United in fourth place, with only four points from a possible 18.
Despite a gallant effort in the first half, Coman found the back of the net at the 71st-minute mark and handed the Bavarians a 1-0 victory to solidify their spot at the top of the UCL grouping.
Erik ten Hag’s tenure as the Red Devils’ coach has been a miserable slog: his team has lost 12 of 24 matches for the 2023/24 season and are currently in sixth place with 27 points in the English Premier League – table leaders Liverpool sit at the top with 37 points – which is a noticeable dip in performance from the previous season.
