Benadie: Basadien is Staying at Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch FC CEO, Rob Benadie, has clarified the status of defender Fawaaz Basadien.
In an interview with SABC Sport last week, Basadien’s agent, Basia Michaels, stated that his client was eager to join Kaizer Chiefs, who have been showing interest in him for quite some time.
In fact, Michaels claimed that the 27-year-old had personally handed in a transfer request to the Cape Winelands team in hopes of joining the Gauteng-based club before the transfer window closes on 20 September 2024.
On Saturday, 24 August, Benadie also spoke upto SABC Sport regarding this situation:
“Fawaaz is a consummate professional. Yes, there is an offer in from Kaizer Chiefs, [but] we improved his contract recently, and he’s still contracted to Stellenbosch Football Club … he’s a fantastic player, we don’t want to go backwards with our squad; we want to continue and do similar type of performances as we did last season.”
Benadie added: “So, Fawaaz is very important to us. He knows that and understands that, and there will always be pressure from the press and other clubs for a lot of our players because we are doing so well.”
