Bonang Matheba is Suing Rea Gopane
YouTuber Rea Gopane is being sued for defamation by media personality, Bonang Matheba.
Last Sunday, 9 May, a video clip of Gopane – one-half of “The Rea and Black Step Podcast” – went viral on social media
In it, he accuses Matheba of introducing her ex-boyfriend, AKA, to substance abuse, which in turn negatively affected the rapper’s relationship with his late fiancee, Anele Tembe, who fell to her death in Cape Town last month.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, 16 May, Matheba posted her lawsuit letter online for Gopane’s attention, after the latter failed to publicly retract his statements despite being contacted by the former’s legal team to do so.
Despite Gopane’s attempts to calm the situation beforehand – which included a tweet that reads, “You have my number. I love you and appreciate you. You inspire me. Take care” – the 33-year-old media personality posted the letter anyway.
Gopane has until 4PM today, Monday 17 May, to provide a written apology and an unconditional retraction, and publish them to his social media accounts, as well as pay R500 000 in damages within 10 days.
