Brentford Welcome Sepp van den Berg for £25m
Brentford have bolstered their defensive line by signing Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool in a deal potentially worth £25 million on Thursday, 22 August.
The 22-year-old Dutch centre-back has committed to a five-year contract with the Bees, choosing Brentford over other suitors, including Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
Van den Berg joined Liverpool in 2019 from PEC Zwolle, but found first-team opportunities limited, making just four senior appearances. Instead, he gained valuable experience during loan spells at Preston North End, Schalke 04, and Mainz, where he made a significant impact, especially in the German top-flight tournament.
The talented player has also represented the Netherlands at the Under-19 and Under-21 levels, showcasing his potential on the international stage.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank expressed his enthusiasm for the new signing, praising Van den Berg’s pace, composure, and intelligence on the ball. Frank believes the young defender fits well with the team’s playing style and culture, and sees him as a crucial addition to the team’s push forward.
With this signing, the Bees continue to strengthen their squad, having also recently added former Liverpool player Fabio Carvalho to their ranks.
