Bucs and Downs Lead PSL Awards

The South African football landscape reached a fever pitch this March as the Betway Premiership title race intensified between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

In the latest monthly awards, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso and Orlando Pirates sensation Relebohile Mofokeng claimed the top honors, cementing their roles as the primary architects of their clubs’ success.

Cardoso secured his second consecutive Coach of the Month award after leading the Brazilians to a perfect record of four wins from four matches. His tactical discipline allowed Sundowns to maintain their lead in what has become a high-stakes two-horse race for the league title.

Equally impressive was 21-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng, who retained the Player of the Month title. The Bafana Bafana international’s standout moment came just before the FIFA break when he netted his first career hat-trick in a 6-0 routing of TS Galaxy.

“The 21-year-old couldn’t have asked for a better way to end this month,” noted the adjudicators, highlighting his four goals across four fixtures.

Off the pitch, national team coach Hugo Broos offered high praise for the young attacker during a press conference on March 26, stating, “Mofokeng is the future of Bafana Bafana.”

Additionally, Chippa United’s Ayabulela Konqobe took home the Goal of the Month for a long-range strike on 14 March, a goal already being hailed as “one of the best of the season” by independent PSL-accredited journalists.
