Bucs Sign Maritzburg’s Karim Kimvuidi
Orlando Pirates have acquired a new player in the form of Karim Kimvuidi.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 26 July, the club confirmed that the 21-year-old Congolese attacking midfielder is joining the Buccaneers from Maritzburg United. His salary and the length of his contract are not yet known.
Prior to his signing, however, Major League Soccer outfit DC United were purportedly interested in acquiring Kimvuidi’s services for a cool R12 million, which suggests that the Bucs somehow managed to match or beat that price-tag.
AmaZulu FC and Kaizer Chiefs were also targeting him, which indicates that the youngster’s impressive passing and defensive skills are highly sought after.
Kimvuidi’s signing comes a day after Pirates announced that playmaker Lesedi Kapinga would also be joining them following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Both players are likely to make their joint debut when Orlando Pirates take on Stellenbosch FC at the latter’s home turf of Danie Craven Stadium next Saturday, 5 August.
