Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Rachel Embraces “Miss Kolisi”

Celebrity marriages typically become a display of spectacle once they’re in the spotlight. More so once the divorce goes through and both partners navigate life away from their former beau.

Take Rachel Kolisi, for instance. She and her former husband, Siya, were once the most beloved couple in South Africa. Unfortunately, they broke the hearts of many in Mzansi once they announced their split in October 2024.

Since then, Siya has remained a rugby icon and has recently started dating again. Rachel has continued her humanitarian work, launched a women’s fitness initiative and embarked on a book tour. She remains a dedicated mum and continues to share her life on social media too.

On Wednesday, 13 May, she shared a cooking video on TikTok, but what made this one different from the others was that this particular peak into her life had an added dash of spice.

Whilst providing a mini update on her life, the 35-year-old philanthropist put on a kitchen apron and upon noticing the “Mrs. Kolisi” on the front, without skipping a beat, proceeded to correct it to “Miss Kolisi”. As you can imagine, online South Africans shared their praise.

Not long after, people on Twitter/X caught on and added their thoughts too.

A few were hung up on her holding onto her former husband’s surname, wondering why she doesn’t go through the whole process. Home Affairs! Just imagine…

Thankfully, you had a few knowledgeable folks to provide input and share their wisdom. Saving money, energy and not to mention, grey hairs!

You know you can’t walk these social media streets for too long without encountering the rude crowd. Any reason to put forward their opinion as if it’s the gospel. Over here, they were putting on their cynical shoes and called the video a ploy for attention-seeking.

A person expressing themselves, carrying on with their life and sharing it online obviously wants others to notice, right? Well, Rachel wanted to share her journey but clearly the pessimistic crowd saw more and thought they knew better.

Sometimes, you notice someone taking the time to think and consider things. Maybe going through the motions takes many different forms. Anyone can tell you that the end of a relationship, especially a marriage, is quite a shock and some take longer than others to get over it. We all grieve differently and take our paths on the way to peace.

Do you think she’s trying to hold onto her 15 minutes of fame? Or is there a quieter, more personal act of self-reflection currently going on? You be the judge!

Until then, it’s entirely up to you on how you choose to go through life.
