Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Thuli Phongolo Shuts Down Dating Rumours
Life on the internet comes at you fast, even when you’re doing nothing. Somewhere, someone will make a post and then it takes on a life of its own, and you are left putting out flames you didn’t start. Such was the case with Thuli Phongolo when the rumour mill started churning out romantic gossip.
On Thursday morning, 18 June, Twitter troll extraordinaire, Chris Excel, uploaded a salacious post implying, amongst other things, that certain women were in the dating crosshairs of Prince Kaybee and Edwin Sodi.
Faster than you can blink, users were already sharing warnings and scolding the online troublemaker for talking about things that may or may not have been true.
Of course Chris Excel had his fans too!
It didn’t stop there, because someone eventually alerted Kaybee to the online ruckus.
Barely an hour later and the 37-year-old record producer commented a short one-liner and left the rest of the tweeps to guess and gossip. Needless to say, it set these social media streets alight!
Honestly, how difficult is it for a celeb to say “this is false information” and quash all chatter?
The loud fuss must have made Phongolo’s ears hot because she also showed up not too long thereafter to challenge the troll AND Kaybee.
One user cynically assumed that the Thuli P account responding wasn’t the real McCoy as she has no presence on Twitter/X.
HOWEVER, the 32-year-old “Generations: The Legacy” actress brought receipts, and cleared up all doubt that it was her and she was ready to clear her name and reputation. Revealing that she had an account on that had been dormant since 2022, she shared her thoughts – “Hear it from me first” – across both X and Instagram, even showing that she had had a phone call with her dear old dad.
Meanwhile, there was one user who pointed out the limited memory of social media users and injecting some humour in an otherwise messy situation.
There’s nothing funny about discovering rumours about yourself, especially if they’re incredibly vulgar. Credit where it is due to Phongolo for setting the record straight and standing up for herself. She’s a fantastic example of how it should be done.
