Chelsea Hold Arsenal to 1-1 Draw as Injuries Trouble Arteta

Chelsea and Arsenal battled to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in London, England, with Pedro Neto’s equaliser cancelling out Gabriel Martinelli’s opener last night, Sunday 11 November.

Despite Arsenal taking the lead, Neto’s powerful strike kept the Blues third in the English Premier League with 19 points, while the Gunners dropped to fourth place with the same amount of points.

Mikel Arteta’s side have now gone four matches without a win and are plagued by a series of injuries. Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice, both critical to Arsenal’s campaign, limped off in the second half, leaving Arteta hopeful that the international break will offer a reprieve from their injury woes.

Martin Ødegaard’s return provided a creative boost, but missed late chances, including one by Leandro Trossard, saw the visitors squander another lead. Arteta called on his players to “show their teeth” and dig in to overcome their recent slump, emphasising that only a winning streak will close the gap with their rivals, Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was satisfied with his side’s performance but noted the disappointment of players like Noni Madueke, who showed eagerness to stay on and make an impact.

With the international break ahead, both teams will be looking to regroup and push for greater consistency in their title bids.
