Chelsea Left Scrambling After Everton Defeat
Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is reluctantly considering entering the January transfer negotiations after a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Everton yesterday, Sunday 10 December.
The Toffees hosted the Blues at Goodison Park Stadium in Liverpool, England as they claimed their third consecutive English Premier League (EPL) victory for the first time since 2021.
The result has left Chelsea sitting in 12th place on the EPL table with just 18 points, just below Brentford.
“I’m really, really disappointed,” Pochettino said during the post-match press conference before adding: “It’s a problem we need to check. We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market.”
As the Blues have spent a significant amount on transfers over the last few years – more than £1 billion since May 2022, and over £400 million in the mid-year transfer window alone – it’s difficult to tell what funds will be available.
Chelsea will need to tread carefully as the EPL is currently cracking down on their Financial Fair Play rules, which prohibit clubs from overspending and potentially creating an unfair advantage.
