Chelsea Sale Proceeds to Benefit Ukraine Victims
Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, has confirmed that he is selling his club and that the net proceeds will be donated to a foundation for the benefit of all victims of the current war in Ukraine.
Per reports, the multi-billionaire has also placed his houses up for sale out of fear of being sanctioned by the UK government following his involvement with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
In an effort to protect Stamford Bridge and broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, the Russian oligarch is willing to sell the club without being paid the £1.5 billion loans the club owes to him.
According to Abramovich’s statement regarding stepping down, purchasing the Blues has never been about making money, but rather fulfilling his passion for the game, hence he is eager to sell it and relieve the immediate needs of Ukrainian victims.
Chelsea head coach, Thomas Tuchel, has expressed his frustration towards Abramovich’s decision, saying that it’s hard for him and that the news hasn’t sunk in yet but, that he is not worried about the club’s future.
