Chiefs Stun Sundowns in Nedbank Cup Semi-Final

Kaizer Chiefs have silenced naysayers after pulling off a 2-1 upset victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final on Sunday, 13 April.
Playing at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, Gauteng, Sundowns kept Chiefs on their toes by maintaining 64% possession of the ball throughout the match. Indeed, the reigning Premier Soccer League champions’ efforts paid off just before half-time, when midfielder Teboho Mokoena scored in the fifth minute of added time.
However, Amakhosi – who have come under scrutiny for their recent lacklustre performances – responded with an equaliser from midfielder Wandile Duba in the 57th minute.
After more than thirty minutes of intense back-and-forth play, forward Ashley Du Preez netted a goal in the 89th minute, securing a 2-1 win for the Soweto giants against Sundowns.
As a result of this momentous victory, Nasreddine Nabi’s men are booked to face their longtime rivals, Orlando Pirates, in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
Details regarding the date and kick-off time will be announced soon.
