Chippa and Polokwane Split Points

Chippa United and Polokwane City played to a competitive 1-1 draw in their Betway Premiership clash at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday evening, 11 April 2026.

The result leaves the “Chilli Boys” in 13th place, while “Rise and Shine” maintains their top-eight standing in seventh.

Chippa United broke the deadlock late in the first half when Sinoxolo Kwayiba found Malebogo Modise, who stabbed the ball past goalkeeper Lindokuhle Mathebula in the 43rd minute.

However, the visitors mounted a persistent second-half comeback. After Manuel Kambala struck the crossbar and Dumisani Msibi produced a series of sharp saves, Polokwane finally found their equalizer. In the 86th minute, Ndamulelo Maphangule coolly converted a penalty after Tholo Matuludi was tripped inside the area.

According to reports, both coaches viewed the result as a fair reflection of the game. Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe expressed satisfaction with his team’s resilience, stating: “We showed great character to keep pushing until the final whistle.”

Chippa United’s technical team remained pragmatic about the point, with captain Abbubaker Mobara noting: “A point is better than nothing in this league; we just have to keep building.”

Polokwane City will return to action this Saturday, 18 April, as they host a surging Kaizer Chiefs side at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Meanwhile, Chippa United has a longer preparation window, with their next league assignment taking place away to AmaZulu FC on Saturday, 25 April.
