Chippa at Risk of Relegation After 2-1 Loss to Gallants

Chippa United are in the deep end of the relegation zone, with no chance of being rescued, after being handed a 2-1 Betway Premiership loss by Marumo Gallants on Sunday, 19 October.

Playing at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State, Gallants applied sustained pressure on their visitors to maintain a strong possession of the ball throughout the first half. By the same token, however, Chippa managed to keep up a strong defence.

Following a goalless first half, the hosts finally managed to break the deadlock when Sekela Christopher Sithole struck in the 60th minute to score a left-footed strike from outside the box.

Despite Chippa levelling the score in the 88th minute, Gallants’ new signing Eroine Agnikoi headed home a corner from Khumbulani Ncube at the 94-minute mark.

This allowed the Free State outfit to walk away with a 2-1 victory. It also marked their ascent to tenth place (with 13 points) on the Premier Soccer League rankings.

At the same time, it has increased 16th-placed Chippa’s chances of being relegated out of the league with a meagre six points.
