Chippa Coach Resolute Despite Transfer Ban
Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has maintained a defiant stance following the confirmation of a FIFA-imposed transfer ban against the Gqeberha-based club.
The sanction, which prohibits the “Chilli Boys” from registering new players both nationally and internationally, stems from an outstanding debt of approximately R200,000 owed to former Belgian coach Luc Eymael.
Despite the off-field legal turmoil, Vilakazi has publicly backed his current roster to secure Betway Premiership survival. Speaking after a recent 1-1 draw against Polokwane City, the coach, famously nicknamed “Kanu”, emphasised his detachment from administrative disputes.
“That’s not my department; I only focus on the four lines,” Vilakazi told journalists. “Whether there is a ban or no ban, I am happy with the players that I have now. I still feel that we will definitely run away from relegation or playoffs with these players.”
The club’s hierarchy has characterized the situation as an “ongoing administrative matter” being handled in “good spirit.”
While the ban is active, FIFA has granted the club until the August registration window to settle the arrears. The club officially stated, “This matter does not impact the club’s football operations,” urging supporters to remain steadfast as they navigate the final five matches of the 2025/26 campaign.
