City Fans: Guardiola Should Stick to Coaching
Manchester City’s official supporters club has told the club’s manager, Pep Guardiola, to stick to coaching after his recent plea to fans to attend this weekend’s clash against Southampton.
On Wednesday, 16 September, the Cityzens played their Champions League group stage game against Leipzig at the Etihad – and the stadium had about 38,000 supporters, well below it’s capacity of 54,000. Man City won the match 6-3.
During the post-match interview, Guardiola pleaded with the fans to come out in numbers for Saturday’s game.
The request wasn’t received well by the club’s official supporters club.
Its general secretary, Kevin Parker, told the media that he was surprised by the coach’s comments because he doesn’t understand the challenges of attending a late-night match, and that he should focus on his coaching job.
He said: “He doesn’t understand the difficulties that some people might have getting to a game at the Etihad on a Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m.”
He added: “He’s absolutely the best coach in the world but, in the nicest possible way, I think maybe he should stick to that.”
Meanwhile, rival fans have now dubbed Manchester City’s home, Etihad as Emptyhad.
