City’s Sergio Aguero Back in Action!

Sergio Aguero made a triumphant return from an injury to help Manchester City gain a 3-0 UEFA Champions League win over Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday night, 9 December.

The 32-year-old Argentine striker hurt his hamstring in late October during his side’s English Premier League (EPL) match against West Ham.

Now, returning to Etihad Stadium, Aguero came off the bench as a second-half substitute for winger Riyad Mahrez at the 67th minute – ten minutes later, he scored City’s second goal of the evening.

Team-mate Ferran Torres clinched a 1-0 lead at the 48th minute, with Marseille’s Alvaro Gonzalez scoring an own goal at the 90th minute, thus qualifying City as winners of Group C.

Coach Pep Guardiola praised Aguero afterwards, while also being realistic about his form so soon after his injury.

He said: “His instinct to score will always be there … he played 25 minutes and scored a goal, but it’s step-by-step.”

The Citizens are scheduled to face Manchester United in the EPL this Saturday, 12 December.
