Coronavirus Chaos in Tottenham Hotspur Camp
Tottenham Hotspur FC coach, Antonio Conte, will be having many sleepless nights ahead after the news broke that eight players and five staff members tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
On Wednesday, 8 December, during a pre-match interview, the Italian soccer boss said he was informed of the COVID-19 test results the day before.
He said: “We had a training session, we prepared for the game against [Stade Rennais FC] but it is very difficult. At the end of the training session again, one player is positive, another member of staff is positive.”
That night, the club released a statement confirming “a number of positive COVID-19 cases at the Club [sic].”
It also said: “We can confirm that our UEFA Europa Conference League Group G home fixture against Rennes will not take place [Thursday, 9 December].”
Spurs are expected to take on Brighton & Hove Albion FC at Falmer Stadium this Sunday, 12 December, but odds are that the English Premier League match will be cancelled, too, if their request for a postponement is denied.
