Dawn Thandeka Kings Quits “Uzalo”
Dawn Thandeka King is set to leave “Uzalo.”
Last year, rumours cropped up that King – best known for playing MaNgcobo on the popular television soapie – was not on good terms with the show’s producers after she supposedly asked them for a salary increase.
An anonymous source also claimed at the time that the 43-year-old actress exhibited diva-like behaviour on set, and that she made “the writers and directors’ jobs difficult because she sometimes demands to change the story-lines [sic].”
Now, according to entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela, King’s four-season tenure on “Uzalo” is coming to an end.
He tweeted on Sunday, 10 January: “Former Uzalo [sic] star, will play lead on a new series produced by Black Brain Pictures. Sources tell me the show is titled ‘Diepsloot’ … the title may change when the show airs.”
King’s departure comes three months after her two co-stars, Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe, also quit “Uzalo” after allegedly clashing with the soapie’s creators.
