Dazzling 2023 BET Awards Revealed

Kendrick Lamar left his mark on the 2023 BET Awards by walking away as the winner of four major categories.

The awards ceremony aired on Tuesday, 10 October, having been filmed last week at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The proceedings included emotional speeches and tributes, jaw-dropping performances from Hollywood A-listers, and celebrations recognising the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

Rapper Fat Joe was thrilled to host the event, leading the way for the two-and-a-half-hour broadcast.

Many music fans expected either Cardi B or 21 Savage to receive the most awards, as they went into the evening with 12 nominations each. However, it was Lamar who walked away with awards in every category he was nominated for, including Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Video Director of the Year with his creative partner, Dave Free.

The 36-year-old rapper’s final award of Best Live Performer put him in the history books, as Kanye West and Jay-Z are the only other musicians who have also claimed the title four times.

Several other artists also earned recognition for their work, including Drake and 21 Savage for their LP, “Her Loss”, which won Hip Hop Album of the Year, and Lil Uzi Vert who won Song of the Year for his “Just Wanna Rock” single.
