Doctor Pleads Guilty in Connection with Matthew Perry’s Death

A doctor accused in the death of Matthew Perry has entered a guilty plea for conspiring to distribute ketamine to the late actor.

Last October, Perry passed away at the age of 54 after he was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his house in Los Angeles, California. According to a subsequent autopsy’s report, the “Friends” star died from the acute effects of ketamine, a surgical anaesthetic.

Since then, five suspects – including Dr Mark Chavez – have been charged with conspiring to distribute ketamine in connection with Perry’s death.

On Wednesday, 2 October, Chavez pleaded guilty during an appearance at the US District Court in Los Angeles. In his plea, the 54-year-old physician admitted that he obtained ketamine lozenges and other substances from a San Diego-based clinic he formerly worked at.

Subsequently, with help from the other suspects, including Perry’s live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, Chavez supplied Perry with $50 000 worth of ketamine just weeks prior to his death.

Chavez will be sentenced on 2 April 2025. He could face up to 10 years in prison, as well as three years of supervised release and a fine of $500 000.
