Dolly Parton’s Husband Carl Dean Dies at 82

Carl Dean, the husband of country music legend Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Parton announced her beloved’s death in a heartfelt statement via Instagram on Monday, 3 March, expressing her love and gratitude for their nearly six-decade marriage and requested privacy during this difficult time.

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years,” said the 79-year-old country singer.

Dean, a businessman who owned an asphalt-paving company, famously avoided the spotlight despite being married to one of the world’s most recognisable stars. The couple met outside a laundromat when Parton was 18, and they wed in a private ceremony in 1966.

Their relationship remained largely out of the public eye, leading to speculation about Dean’s existence, a rumour Parton often joked about. Her iconic song “Jolene” was based on a flirtatious bank teller who caught his attention, and her 2023 Rockstar album featured songs he loved.

The couple never had children, but Dean was deeply involved in helping raise Parton’s younger siblings.

He is survived by his wife and his siblings, Sandra and Donnie. A private funeral will be held for the immediate family.
