Everton Sign Ex-England Winger
Everton have announced the signing of their newest addition: former England winger, Andros Townsend.
According to a club statement released on Tuesday, 20 July, Townsend is joining the Toffees on a free transfer from Crystal Palace. The deal will run for two years.
The 30-year-old winger scored three goals in 13 appearances for the English national team, and has enjoyed a varied career across numerous English Premier League clubs from Tottenham Hotspur to Newcastle United.
Speaking to Everton’s subscription channel, Townsend said: “It’s very ambitious, a club which has been trying to get back to where it belongs … I’ll be doing all I can to help the club do that.”
Regarding his reunion with coach Rafael Benitez – who previously coached Townsend at Newcastle – he commented: “[Benitez] leaves no stone unturned. But more importantly, he’s a great man, a great man-manager, and he’s always talking to you.”
Townsend concluded: “My job now is to prove I’m good enough to be an important part of this football club, and that’s why I’m working hard in training and in games.”
