Ex-Chiefs Stars Face Former Club

As Kaizer Chiefs reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz, five recently released players are set to line up against their former club.

Amakhosi parted ways with seven players during the off-season window. While defender Aden McCarthy signed for Azerbaijani champions Sabah FC and Happy Mashiane remains a free agent, the remaining five individuals joined rival South African sides.

Durban City secured the signatures of both experienced midfielder Gastón Sirino and striker Tashreeq Morris, reuniting them with former Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef. Meanwhile, DStv Diski Challenge graduate Siyabonga Gumede joined Richards Bay FC to reinforce their defensive line, and goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari moved to newly promoted Kruger United on loan.

Crucially, midfielder George Matlou completed a transfer to Stellenbosch FC on a long-term deal. Speaking on the acquisition, Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie praised the midfielder, stating: “George is a player we believe can add real value to our squad through his experience, technical ability, and understanding of the game”.

With all five players now settled at rival domestic clubs, Amakhosi face a series of intriguing on-field reunions throughout the upcoming 2026/27 Premiership campaign.
