Family Pays Beautiful Tribute to Zahara
The family of Zahara have paid tribute to the songstress following her tragic passing.
On Monday, 11 December, the “Loliwe” hitmaker – real name Bulelwa Mkutukana – died at a public hospital in Johannesburg, Gauteng; two weeks prior, she had been admitted to Netcare Olivedale Hospital for an undisclosed health issue. She was 36.
The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, although reports say she was suffering from liver complications that necessitated a transplant, unfortunately the prognosis came too late.
In a statement published on Zahara’s official Instagram account on Tuesday, 12 December, her family described her as “a beacon of hope, a gift, and a blessing to us and countless people around the world.”
“Zahara remarkably touched millions of people’s lives with her extraordinary gift and passion for music,” the statement reads. “She leaves behind an indelible mark on the music industry and a legacy that will forever resonate in our hearts and souls.
“May we remember Zahara not with sorrow, but with stories of healing, joy, kindness and inspiration she brought to us through her life and her music.”
Nkosiyami Mkutukana, the family’s spokesperson and Zahara’s uncle, also thanked the hospital staff who looked after the singer in her final days.
“We appreciate what they did,” he said in an interview also on Tuesday. “They did all their best to avoid what had happened. We appreciate their efforts.”
