Furry Tails of Christmas: Hope for 350 Homeless Animals

Fallen Angels animal shelter in Melkbosstrand, Western Cape, is celebrating a heartwarming Christmas miracle after finding a new home.

The animal charity previously received a 90-day eviction notice due to safety concerns near the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant. Posed with the monumental task of relocating 350 animals before the festive season, the shelter’s future looked uncertain.

Thanks to overwhelming support from animal lovers worldwide, the shelter has secured new land and begun constructing vital perimeter fencing. More than 20 animals have also found loving homes through adoptions.

Co-founder Gayl Basson was blown away by the response, recently telling a local publication: “Seeing how much people care and how they’ve rallied behind us – it feels like a Christmas blessing. A huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders. We now have the foundation of a safe haven for our animals.”

However, despite this progress, significant challenges remain. The shelter urgently needs funds to build kennels and complete infrastructure development to ensure the animals’ comfort and safety. An appeal has also been lodged with the City of Cape Town to extend their deadline, providing more time for a smooth transition.

While the journey is far from over, the unwavering kindness of supporters has filled the shelter with hope, reminding them that even in their darkest hours, brighter days are possible. Fallen Angels is determined to make their vision of a safe haven a reality.
