Gunners Aaron Ramsdale Attacked by Spurs Fan
A tense match between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs ended on a violent note as a Spurs fan kicked the back of Gunners goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.
The two teams came face-to-face on Sunday, 15 January, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. The visitors walked away with a 2-0 victory over the hosts.
An argument between Ramsdale and Brazilian Richarlison after the final whistle blew – which resulted in the Spurs forward hitting the Gunners goalie in the face – only further fuelled the tensions in the stands.
An unnamed supporter leapt onto the advertising boards surrounding the field and landed a swift kick on Ramsdale’s back as he was pulled away from the scuffle.
The Professional Footballers’ Association has released a statement condemning the attack, saying: “violence towards players is completely unacceptable” before adding that “players have a right to be safe in their place of work.”
Tottenham have also released their own statement on their official website: “The club has reviewed its CCTV footage to identify the supporter and will be working with the Met Police, Arsenal and Aaron Ramsdale to take the strongest possible action, including an immediate [stadium] ban.”
