Heartbreak for Celtic as Bayern Snatch Last-Gasp Equaliser

Celtic’s UEFA Champions League dream ended in agonising fashion as Bayern Munich scored in stoppage time to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory in their play-off tie last night, Tuesday 18 February.
Brendan Rodgers’ side produced a superb performance in Munich, Germany, taking the lead through Nicolas Kuhn after capitalising on a defensive lapse in the 63rd minute.
The Scottish champions had started brightly, creating several chances through Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and Kuhn, while Kasper Schmeichel kept the Bavarians at bay with crucial saves.
Harry Kane, who had been a pre-match doubt, hit the bar before being substituted at half-time.
As the match wore on, Bayern desperately pushed for an equaliser. Celtic defended resolutely, seemingly set to force extra time. However, in the dying seconds, Alphonso Davies bundled in a rebound after Schmeichel denied Leon Goretzka, sending Bayern through and leaving the visitors devastated.
Despite the defeat, the Scottish squad’s display showcased significant growth in the tournament. Rodgers praised his team’s resilience, stating they had restored their “European credibility”.
Bayern, meanwhile, will advance to face either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16, having survived a major scare against a valiant Celtic side.
