Highs and Lows of Man City Treble Victory

Fans of Manchester City can hold their heads high after this weekend, as the club have claimed their first continental Treble after winning the UEFA Champions League 1-0.

The Citizens took on Inter Milan at Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Türkiye on Saturday, 10 June, in a nail-biting season finale. Both sides put up a fierce fight for the first half, but City midfielder Rodri was able to claim the elusive winning goal at the 68th minute mark.

The team can be particularly proud of themselves as they are only the second English men’s side to win the English Premier League, Football Association Challenge Cup and UEFA Champions League in the same season, following their arch rivals Manchester United achieving the same feat in 1999.

Fans lined up at Manchester Airport in England on Sunday, 11 June, to welcome their heroes back with banners and cheers, while thousands more are expected to join for a victory parade in the city centre on Monday, 12 June.

However, despite the glowing success, many City supporters are frustrated with UEFA and their lack of management surrounding the logistics of the match. According to reports, spectators were left standing for hours after the match, as overcrowded buses and price-gouging taxis left a sour taste in many people’s mouths.
